Behind the Scenes of .legal
Our guide to buying compliance software outlines several factors to consider before purchasing and committing to a solution.
In the following, we explore and provide answers to how our compliance platform meets these criteria.
The Guide to Buying Compliance Software
In our guide to buying compliance software we listed 16 aspects you should consider before buying compliance software.
So, we thought we would provide you with this information about us on this page.
Quality Assurance
At .legal, we ensure that the compliance platform's content and features are built to the highest standards by staying up-to-date with the latest guidelines and partnering strategically with Bech-Bruun, a leading law firm in Denmark, for quality assurance.
Compliance is a top priority in our product design.
We closely monitor industry developments, anticipating changes before they are formally introduced. If a new ruling or regulation is issued, we address it immediately to ensure the quality of the platform.
The platform's compliance areas are carefully selected to ensure they fully meet those requirements at all times.
Our goal is to provide reliable guardrails for your compliance needs.
Compliance Audit
We maintain two independent audit certifications, ISAE 3000 and ISAE 3402, and we're working towards ISO 27001 certification. Our current certifications cover IT security and GDPR compliance, and they are renewed annually to demonstrate our ongoing compliance and are audited by external auditors.
Notably, these are ISAE Type 2 audits, which assess our current compliance status and evaluate our compliance over a period of time, making them more comprehensive and valuable than ISAE Type 1 audits.
Our approach to compliance is fully transparent, and all relevant documentation is available online through our compliance hub. You should find everything you need regarding our compliance and security measures there.
However, we are always available to provide additional details and support if you have any further questions or require specific information beyond the independent audit reports.
We use our compliance software to manage all our compliance and security controls to ensure that our practices remain consistent and current. A robust system is essential for maintaining our long-term compliance and makes it easier for everyone to participate in the compliance process.
Your Needs
To help you determine if our software meets your organisation's compliance needs, we offer one-on-one demos tailored to your specific requirements. During this session, we guide you through the platform, address your questions, and explore how it can meet your particular needs.
You can also review our detailed feature list to assess whether our software meets your requirements. Furthermore, an elaborate library of videos is available that will walk you through using the software.
If you’re anything like us, you will want to thoroughly test it yourself. We offer a "freemium" version with limited features that you can start using immediately, and it is free forever.
For a more complete experience, you can take advantage of our 30-day trial, which includes full access to all features and no credit card required.
During this trial, you will have access to our customer success team, who will ensure you receive the support you need and have all your questions answered. This way, you can confidently determine whether our solution is the right fit for your needs.
Product Roadmap
We announce all product updates on our product blog and send notifications to everyone who subscribed to our updates. We take great care in explaining what features we are adding and why we are adding them. Many of these updates are driven by feedback and requests from our existing users to ensure that the product remains relevant and user-focused.
In addition to feature enhancements, we update our software to meet the highest quality standards. This guarantees that you always have access to reliable and up-to-date compliance software.
Onboarding
When you sign up with us, you can start within two minutes.
We have designed our onboarding process to be straightforward, allowing you to self-onboard through the software.
However, a customer success manager can guide you if you prefer more personalised assistance. It is entirely up to you.
We also provide ongoing support, so if you encounter any issues or have questions, help is always readily available.
For clients transitioning from another compliance system, we offer assistance with importing existing compliance data from your other tools or systems so that the transition will be smooth and hassle-free. We offer this to all customers, whether using Excel or another compliance software.
Time Horizon
There are two critical time horizons when getting started with our software: 1) the time it takes to vet the provider and 2) the time it takes to get onboarded and start using the compliance software.
Our compliance hub provides access to our third-party security and GDPR compliance audits and offers the transparency you need during the due diligence. Additionally, our system's ease of use helps reduce the time from initial evaluation to full software implementation.
The time it takes from getting started to fully integrating our software into your compliance management will vary depending on your starting point and the maturity of your existing compliance efforts.
If you are new to compliance management and starting from scratch, we offer support in setting everything up to ensure you have a solid foundation. However, in most cases, this won’t even be necessary, because the onboarding process is designed to be smooth and straightforward, so you can start seeing results quickly, even if you're starting from scratch.
For organisations with existing systems—perhaps you’re already using tools like Excel or another compliance platform—we can help make the transition as seamless as possible by migrating your existing compliance documentation into our system.
We understand that organisations are at different stages in their compliance journey. In both scenarios, our team is here to help you achieve compliance by setting realistic timelines.
Support
We offer comprehensive support for all users of our compliance platform, which is available via email, phone, and video call. Our platform is thoroughly documented online, where you can find detailed information to help resolve any issues.
Integrations
Our software supports Single Sign-On (SSO), allowing users to access the platform securely with their existing credentials. SSO streamlines the login process so users can authenticate through their organisation's identity provider, reducing the need to manage multiple usernames and passwords.
Although we don’t offer external integrations with other systems, our platform is built on a robust internal API architecture. This positions us to introduce integration capabilities in the future to connect with other IT systems and compliance-related tools.
Trial the Software
We offer an unlimited freemium version of our software with limited features. What sets this apart is that there’s no time restriction. You can, therefore, use the platform indefinitely without ever needing to provide credit card details.
The freemium version allows you to explore the platform at your own pace and test whether it fits your compliance needs.
We also offer a 30-day free trial of the paid version for those interested in experiencing our software's full capabilities.
During this trial period, you can access all features without requiring a credit card. This allows you to fully evaluate the software’s functionality and see how it meets your compliance requirements.
You even get access to our customer success team, which can answer questions and help you get the most out of the software using the freemium version or the full-featured trial.
Data Storage
Our compliance platform is built on Microsoft Azure, with all data securely hosted within the EU. We leverage Microsoft Azure, a leading cloud provider known for the highest industry standards, to benefit from top-tier security measures and reliable performance.
Although data remains entirely within EU borders, Microsoft is a US-based company. As a result, we conducted a thorough transfer impact assessment of the data transfer, which we can send to you on request. Microsoft is furthermore part of the Data Privacy Framework, which enables a smoother legal process for data transfers to US-based companies.
You can find a list of all our data processors here.
Export Data
The compliance software lets you download reports of your information, such as risk assessments or records of processing agreements, formatted as PDF or Excel. This makes it easy to share information with, for example, the board of directors.
A feature also allows you to export all your data with a button click in a structured Excel format. This makes it straightforward to organise and review your data outside the platform.
Suppose you decide to switch vendors in the future. In that case, this export functionality ensures a seamless transition by providing you with all your data in a readily accessible format with no limitations.
This way, you can easily migrate your data to another system or retain it for your records. There is no vendor lock-in here!
Business Case
Our compliance software is designed to simplify compliance and make it accessible to everyone in your organisation. We support unlimited users, so anyone who needs access within your organisation can use the system. This turns day-to-day compliance into a shared task, which enhances internal accountability and awareness because it is no longer just the compliance officer’s job.
The platform provides role-based access, so users only see what they need. For example, when preparing a risk assessment, a team member can contribute relevant information in their area without being overwhelmed, e.g., by access to the records of processing activities.
While doing nothing might seem cheaper, compliance is a legal requirement that demands work. Investing in our software helps you meet these obligations effectively and efficiently, often with a positive return on investment.

Price
Our pricing model is usage-based, meaning you only pay for what you use. If your needs are minimal, your costs will be low; if you use the software extensively to solve more complex problems, the price adjusts accordingly. This flexible approach ensures that you’re only paying for the value you’re getting from the platform.
We also offer enterprise pricing for larger organisations. If you prefer predictability, you can opt for a fixed-price model by committing to a minimum usage level. This option is particularly attractive to larger companies that value consistent, predictable costs.
There’s no long-term commitment to our software, and you can cancel anytime. If you purchase on a monthly basis, you can cancel at the end of any month without any notice period. For quarterly payments, you can exit at the end of the billing period. This gives you the flexibility to scale up or down as your needs change, without being locked into a long-term contract.
We understand that communicating pricing is important, and we’re committed to making sure our customers fully understand how our pricing works and how it aligns with their usage and business needs.
External Access
You can freely grant access to external consultants or auditors to view and interact with your compliance data. Our role-based permissions system manages this so that external users see only the data and features relevant to their role.
External access has proven beneficial for many of our clients. For example, during audits, organisations can provide auditors with direct access to the necessary documents and data within the platform, which streamlines the audit process and reduces the time spent on back-and-forth communications.
Documentation
The documentation hub provides comprehensive guides on all features and how to use them. The documentation is designed to help you resolve issues efficiently, while the customer success team is ready to assist if additional support is needed.
References
Our website offers case studies showcasing how current clients use our software. Additionally, we can provide references to specific organisations willing to share their experiences directly with you if you wish.
While we don’t currently use a rating system like the Net Promoter Score (NPS) to share publicly, we do note the feedback we get from clients to actively address any recurring issues or themes that arise so that we can keep improving the software for clients.
Our low churn rate speaks to our users' satisfaction; those who start using our software tend to stick with it.
